Umah Senja started with a two-hour long phone call with the client. A client who dreamed of having a cozy, down-to-earth, unpretentious tropical home amidst the hustling & bustling urban life of Jakarta.

The house would also need to accommodate the life of a senior citizen, with a focus mainly on access, ease of use, & ease of maintenance.

The client also pointed out old tropical Sri Lankan houses as references. Hence the presence of terraces on the sides of the house, & the use of earth-tone colors as well as terracotta roof tiles.

Another unique brief from the client for Umah Senja is to create the atmosphere of a “cozy old home” instead of a “polished new house”. And so the choice of materials & colors need to reflect that. The use of floor tiles with terazzo look, off white interior paints, & exposed plywood ceiling are all done to give the house that cozy nuance.

As in all our projects, natural lighting & ventilation are well accommodated by openings on more than one side of each main rooms.
