The main aim of for this design was to re-invigorate the local Indonesian architecture spirit in an Indonesian mosque.

Inspired by the building forms of the earliest mosques to be built in Indonesia, such as Masjid Demak & Masjid Besar Kauman, the design used a trapezoidal roof shape, tropical space arrangements, and local materials.

Several Islamic philosophies were also metaphorically applied in the design of the mosque. The four spiritual levels in Islam (Syariah, Takirah, Hakikat, and Makrifat) were represented by aspects & parts of the design.
