studio kalengkrupuk is the home of studio SAYA. Located above what was originally a garage, part of an existing house, this renovation & addition project was designed with a number of architectural experiments in mind.

Lightweight constructions were used for the structure of the studio. The studio floor for instance, was constructed using steel structures & plywood panels instead of reinforced concrete, while the exterior walls are finished with exposed wall plasters.

Having a self-owned & constructed project also allowed us to experiment with a number of design elements. The perforated metal cladded facade is one of them. The facade provides a light & modern look, allowing it to be in contrast with the bulkier & more conventional looking existing house. A circular opening on the front facade provides a bit of character to the building.

A number of custom furnitures & lamp fixtures designed in line with the whole theme of the project were also part of the experiments done in this project.
